As many of you know my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2007. During the last few years we have prayed and watched her struggle to battle this disease. We knew when she was diagnosed that the disease was not curable but treatable. Recently this has become very clear as her cancer has returned. The last year has been one with many good times as we have enjoyed having our Mom back and my parents have been able to enjoy time together with friends and family. She has spent many days with all of her grandchildren and friends sometimes even pushing herself to exhaustion to not miss anything. Two weeks ago my parents set out on what now appears to be her last trip. They went back east to visit friends and enjoy the change in seasons. While there she became very ill. Upon her return it was discovered she had pneumonia and kidney failure. She was admitted to the hospital Friday night in serious condition. Saturday things began to deteriorate and she began to struggle for breath. They decided to put her on a ventilator as well as continuous dialysis. It appears this could be the end of her battle. We have watched her struggle and and know that the time is coming when we will have to say goodbye. We are praying now for peace and comfort for her in these days. Please pray for her as well as all who love her. We will update this blog with current information as we know more. Please check here for the most current information on her condition and ways to pray and help. I speak for my entire family when I say we love all of you and appreciate the prayers and concern for my Mom who not only is my Mom but one of my best friends. Below is part of a letter my dad sent to a few close family and friends. Thank you for your love and prayers-Katie

"As for Ginny, our family has been told this afternoon to be prepared for the inevitable. Not only is she critical but her cancer is rampant since her body is so weak. They are preparing for a “care & comfort” stage. All directives have been discussed. We expect her to enter that stage in the next 24 hours. She is being sustained but it is likely she is unsustainable. At that time, depending on her progress, they will decide whether to discontinue their assistance. From that time on it will be to wait.
I hope to let you know when there is more to report. Thanks for your love and support. Ginny deeply loved you all.

I am heartbroken but comforted by family and friends. My faith finds refuge in the truth “God is good, therefore, whatever He does is good.”

Resting in God’s goodness

Don

  14. I will never forget my friend and teaching buddy. We shared a lot of laughs and many M and M's. I am so sad for this news. We'll be together again for a cup of tea and laughter someday. Her great pleasure was in her beautiful family who kept her fighting. Thank you for this beautiful dedication page. Ginny Smith was a classy lady with a heart for God.
